Hardwood Flooring Care & Maintenance

Hardwood flooring is one of the most beautiful flooring options available to home and commercial property owners. When properly cared for, it is not uncommon for the hardwood materials to last for 100 years or more. At Universal Carpet, we have a variety of staining and finish options available to provide your location with the customized look and feel that you want.

Cleaning Hardwood Floors

Hardwood flooring looks stunning after it's been installed. However, it can be one of the most difficult materials to maintain over the years. This is because wood is very delicate, and it can easily be damaged, stained, or scratched. Whenever caring for your hardwood, it is important that you clean up any spills right when you notice them. This can help to prevent the beverage, food, perfume, etc. from staining the floor's surface. It is also important that you routinely vacuum, sweep, or dust mop the floor to prevent dirt, grime, and dust from building up and causing problems. You need to make sure that you never use any type of abrasive tools or cleaners to maintain your floor as these can do a lot of serious and irreparable damage.

Inside of your home or commercial location, it will also be a good idea to keep doormats at entryways so that your family, employees, or customers can wipe their feet off and not track dirt all over the floor which may later prove to be difficult to clean up. Runners and area rugs can also be placed on the floor's surface to help prevent premature wear and tear. The materials should be breathable to prevent moisture from getting trapped between the mat and the surface of the floor. These rugs can be used in areas of your building where there may be direct sunlight to the floor from a window or glass door.

There are some things that you should NOT do when it comes to care and maintenance for this kind of flooring. Never use ammonia-based cleaners, acrylic finishes, oil soaps, or acidic materials on the floor. Also, never use a vacuum with beater bars or hard heads as these can easily scratch and leave indentations on the flooring. You should also never walk across the floor in spike heels, or in shoes that have any kind of sharp object coming off of them which could scratch the top surface of the floor.
