Cork FAQ's

Listed below are some commonly asked questions about our green flooring solutions at Universal Carpet.

What is green flooring?

It is any type of flooring that is made from eco-friendly materials, such as cork from an cork oak tree, or bamboo. These are renewable resources, meaning that they are able to naturally replace themselves as quickly as they are consumed.

What is cork board flooring?

This is flooring that is made from materials coming from a cork oak tree. The material itself is incredibly dense and durable. It is easy to maintain and cork has natural thermal and sound insulating qualities. This will help to keep noise down and even help to reduce energy use in your home or commercial location. Cork is also fire-resistant, and is available in many different gorgeous colors, patterns, and textures.

How "green" is cork flooring?

It is made from the renewable bard of a cork oak tree, and this is one of the most sustainable materials available on the market. The trees are not damaged during the harvest since the only wood taken is the outer bark, and it is only trimmed. The tree can keep on living, and it will be able to replace this bark very quickly. A cork oak tree can live for up to 200 years.

What advantages does cork have over traditional hardwood flooring?

Cork provides for a very quiet floor and reduces sound transmission between rooms and levels of the building. It has also been demonstrated that cork can help to relieve strain on your feet and joints. Hardwood flooring can get very noisy as it gets older, and it often as areas that squeak or make a lot of noise when you walk over them.

Is it possible for my pet to damage the cork flooring?

There is a special coat placed on top of the flooring following installation. There is a possibility that your pet's claws or nails could scratch through the surface, but it is less likely to happen with this material when compared with hardwood flooring. Be sure to keep your pet's nails trimmed.

What is bamboo flooring?

Bamboo flooring is made from bamboo grass which has a special laminate placed over it to make a hard and durable surface for flooring. It looks beautiful and can mimic the natural look and feel of genuine hardwood flooring. It is available in many different colors, textures, and widths. The material is known for its durability and for its affordability, as well.

Where can I install bamboo?

It can be used in practically any room of your home or commercial location. However, we do not recommend getting it installed in "wet" locations, such as in the bathroom or kitchen. Moisture could eventually cause the floor to warp or swell.

What are the benefits of bamboo flooring?

It is easy to clean and maintain, and it is ideal for people who suffer from allergies since it does not promote dust or harbor any kind of dust mites. It can last for many years, as well, and can be installed over a variety of subfloor systems.
